The Braun ThermoScan IRT6500 measures infrared heat in the eardrum and the surrounding tissue. The core body temperature is accurately reflected by the eardrum, as it shares its blood supply with the temperature regulation region of the brain. Therefore, the ear drum is a perfect measuring point. Fevers and elevated temperatures are quickly reflected by it.
